It's Good to Know a Few Things

I read the other day that there is more information in a single issue of the New York Times newspaper than most people had access to during their entire lives a hundred years ago.  You and I live in an age of information and we like knowing things.  Facts intrigue us.  So heres a few facts for you to consider:

·         There are approximately 18 million items available on ebay at any given moment.
·         Kleenex tissues were originally used as filters in gas masks.
·         King Kong was Adolph Hitler’s favorite movie.
·         Two dogs were among the Titanic’s survivors.
·         Pirates thought having an earring would improve their eyesight.
·         It has been calculated that in the last 3,500 years, there have been only 230 years of peace throughout the civilized world.
·         In 1911 Bobby Beach broke nearly all the bones in his body after surviving a barrel ride over Niagara Falls. Some time later in New Zealand, he slipped on a banana and died from the fall.
·         There is a town in Texas called Ding Dong.
·         A baseball has exactly 108 stitches.
·         The skin that peels off after a sunburn is called blype.
·         You will blink more than ten million times this year.
Yup, we like facts.  We enjoy sharing facts about ourselves and we enjoy knowing facts about the world in which we live.  It’s just fun to know things.  So when your history teacher tells you to memorize the date of the Lincoln’s assassination, do it.  It might come in handy the next time you want to start up a conversation with a stranger.  Well, ok, it will never come in handy, but the truth still remains, facts are a good thing to know.  So learn a few, would ‘ya?
